Spring is the best time to make your resolutions to be more active and eat well. The days are getting lighter and warmer and we're no longer fighting against the ancient need to conserve energy in the harder months of the year.
March is a great time of year to get outside and active. If your gym membership card is currently gathering dust then how about making a date with yourself to go out for a regular walk, run or bike ride. The days are getting longer and warmer which gives us a little more time and flexibility to explore the great outdoors. I like to take time to notice the signs of Spring emerging in my garden and in the woods, fields and hedgerows as I get out and about. Even on a damp day daffodils and primroses can add as sense of sunshine to your surroundings.
The benefits of getting outside go far beyond getting you fitter. It's great for your mental health too. For example, exercise outside at lunchtime can really refresh your focus, improve your performance and reduce your stress levels at work. Even a 10 minute walk can make a difference.
And Spring is a great time to make some healthy changes to your diet too. Adding in more fruit and veg, maybe using one of the local veg box schemes to get locally grown vegetables delivered to your door and inspire you to cook them in different ways. As you get more active in the warmer months you need to be sure to fuel your body with lots of great nutrients from fresh fruit and vegetables. Try some new recipes and ingredients too – your body benefits from getting it's nutrition from a variety of sources.
