When it comes to my approach to health and exercise coaching there is no ‘one size fits all approach’.
And there is nothing like hearing about the experience in the words of a client.
“I had become overwhelmed by an inability to motivate myself to get moving and take care of my body. A long commute was leaving me uncomfortable, drained and with an entrenched idea that I simply didn’t have time for exercise despite a knowledge that it would probably help.
I had a feeling that having somebody to be accountable to might help me prioritise and make time to get moving, and having met Lesley in the past and recalling her as a wonderfully cheery person who embraced outdoor exercise rather than soulless gyms I got in touch.
I might have expected an exercise programme and accountability calls, and had that been a successful approach for me I think I could have had just that. But, Lesley took the time to really understand me and my thoughts around exercise, to explore my past experiences and to help me pinpoint exactly why it seemed important now. I am hopelessly non compliant of any regime and Lesley quickly identified this and has approached our relationship with an incredibly flexible methodology. Each week we have spoken and she has helped me find positivity and progress (no matter how small), she has provided me with ideas and suggestions which have never been prescriptive but have nevertheless found me somehow incorporating more movement into my life. Nothing timetabled, no tick box exercises and no commitment, but I have walked, practised yoga, leapt around my kitchen in short bursts with a Tabata timer, gardened hard and even found myself squatting while the kettle boiled!
More than anything Lesley’s commitment to me, to helping me celebrate my little wins and to identifying why I think I dislike exercise has been novel - I’ve tried personal training in the past and often ended up with the feeling that I’d pay them again to go away! I got a whole lot more than I anticipated and am so pleased that I made contact with her this year.”
