There’s definitely added anxiety in the air at the moment.
Just as Spring is springing and we normally all start to feel more positive and energetic again, there’s a bit of a dampener of our spirits in the form of this Covid-19 coronavirus and its many implications on life, work, family and finances.
But there’s an opportunity too. And not just for manufacturers of loo roll, hand wash and face masks.
There’s an opportunity to step away from the hurly burly of life and ask what’s important, and who needs my help.
There’s an opportunity to slow down a little, not struggle on through with a cold or travel around the country.
There’s an opportunity to make meaningful acts of kindness to strangers.
And there’s action we can take to help ourselves feel better. Guess what my top one is?
Get outside - head out for a walk and notice the signs of Spring, the birdsong, feel the heat of the sun or the refreshing nature of the rain! It always helps. You can take it a step further into a “gratitude run”. See here for some ideas on how this helps.
Get clear - clear on your priorities, clear clutter (it’s a good thing my husband doesn’t read this as he’d laugh out loud!).
Try something new - dust off the piano, try new languages, new recipes, knit, dance, sing. Find a fun workout on YouTube for you all to try. If you’re working from home, or the kids are off school, this can be a way to divert you or them.
Drink water, eat your greens, nurture yourself like the precious human being you are.
Go to bed early, switch off social media channels even earlier than ever and divert yourself with a book before bed. I’m currently reading Wilding and have the Mirror and the Light by Hilary Mantel lined up next.
If you’re feeling anxious, write your worries down, sometimes you’ll come up with a solution or an action, but more often than not it will ease your busy mind just to have a list.
